The Beatles: Rock Band is more than just Rock Band 2 with songs from the Beatles. The Beatles: Rock Band takes the core gameplay of the Rock Band franchise and combines it with an unbeatable Beatles experience to give fans a work of art, rather than just a game.
In the career mode, plastic instrumentalists will play through a chronological journey that spans the entire career of the “Fab Four”. During career mode, players will strum, sing and drum along to 45 of The Beatles’ biggest hits, starting with songs like “Twist and Shout” and “I Saw Her Standing There” and finishing up with songs like “Drive My Car” and “The End”. Playing through career mode and earning more stars will earn Beatles aficionados lots of behind-the-scenes type of photos and audio clips that were taken throughout the band’s history.
During career mode, players will also chronologically visit different landmark concerts that The Beatles played. Players will start in the Cavern Club in the UK, work their way through the Ed Sullivan Show, Shea Stadium and Budokan and eventually end up playing their famous final concert on top of the Apple Corps building in London. In order to keep the game canonical to the career of The Beatles, each song in the game is paired up with whatever venue was from the corresponding era. That means that players will never see “Revolution” being sung on the Ed Sullivan Show, nor will you see “Twist and Shout” being recorded in Abbey Road Studio.
During the time where the Beatles did no touring or live shows and simply recorded tracks in Abbey Road studio, players are treated to beautifully created dreamscapes, where Harmonix artistically developed background effects that go along with the song. The Beatles’ avatars in the background always are dressed appropriately for the mood of each song.
Outside of career mode, players are able to do a simple quickplay or take the classic catalog online to take on other Beatlemaniacs. The online mode is nearly identical to that of Rock Band 2. If you’re more curious about the legend of The Beatles, then there is plenty of history to read up concerning each song and venue.
One thing that Harmonix has made clear about their strategy when releasing any game is that they like the idea of keeping a game alive through the use of downloadable content. In 2009, Harmonix released three full albums (Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Rubber Soul) plus the classic single, “All You Need is Love”. Harmonix has not disclosed how many albums will be released via DLC, but it is widely speculated that they will continue to release one album a month until they either run out of albums or the sales of the DLC dry up.
In addition to releasing the game, Harmonix has also released two bundles that include The Beatles: Rock Band, plus two separate instruments. The first bundle is a value bundle that includes the game, plus all of the instruments that were included in the original Rock Band Special Edition bundle. The second, and most prominent bundle includes the game, plus a replica Hofner bass guitar, like the one that Paul McCartney usually uses, a special Beatles replica drum kit, a microphone and a microphone stand. In addition to the bundles, Harmonix also released two individual guitars, John Lennon’s Rickenbacker 325 guitar and George Harrison’s Gretsch Duo Jet guitar.

The the price of the Mono set is a little more, but this limited edition is a perfect reproduction of the magic The Beatles originally created decades ago.
